Longo Named as Recipient of NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship
Mar 10, 2025 | Men's Soccer
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA announced its list of postgraduate scholarship recipients for the fall 2024 sports season, with Memphis men's soccer athlete Logan Longo being named as a recipient.
"It means so much to be selected for such a prestigious honor," said Longo. "God has truly blessed me in more ways than I can count. I'm beyond grateful to the University of Memphis and the opportunities the university has provided me. It has truly been an honor to represent my hometown on and off the field. I pray that I continue to maximize future opportunities and represent Memphis as a school and a city to the best of my ability."
"Logan has an amazing balance of qualities that make him stand out – not just in sports, but in his character too," Associate Athletic Director, Academic Services Fernandez West said. "His humility makes him approachable and easy to connect with, while his confidence, intelligence and ambition drive him to keep pushing for success. It's inspiring when someone has such a well-rounded personality."
Longo graduated in May 2024 with bachelor's degrees in chemistry and psychology while minoring in both Spanish and healthcare and society. He is currently working towards a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in urban health. In the coming fall, Longo will be attending medical school with the hopes of becoming a physician.
"I want to congratulate Logan on such an outstanding accomplishment and one that was absolutely earned on his part both on and off the field," said men's soccer head coach Richard Mulrooney. "His play on the field earned him all-conference honors this past fall and those will be some hard shoes to fill with him graduating. But what separates Logan from many, and what I believe helped him earn this prestigious award is his true character. He is a team-first type of player and I know that, along with his work ethic, will take him as far as he wants to go in life. We wish him all the best as he moves forward in his journey."
Longo was a key factor in leading Memphis to an American Athletic Conference (AAC) regular season championship in 2024. After moving into a starting role in 2023, where he made 13 starts and logged over 1,200 minutes in defense, Longo was a full-time starter for the Tigers in 2024. In his graduate season, he was a three-time AAC weekly honorable mention, culminating in recognition as a 2024 All-AAC Second Team selection. Longo recorded seven goal contributions (four goals, three assists), was one of three Memphis players to start all 17 matches and was the only Tiger to play all 1,530 minutes.
Details regarding the scholarship can be found below.
The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $10,000 are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sports season (fall, winter and spring). Each sports season, there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
All former student-athletes who earned an undergraduate degree from an NCAA member school are eligible to be nominated by that school for an NCAA graduate degree scholarship, regardless of when they received their undergraduate degree.
